HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 03251986 - X.14 X. 14 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA Adopted this Order on March 25, 1986 , by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Fanden, Schroder, McPeak, Torlakson and Powers NOES: None ABSENT: None ABSTAIN: None -------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------- SUBJECT : Benicia Bridge tolls proposal to replace with gas tax Supervisor Torlakson announced that at a recent meeting of the Contra Costa County Transportation Advisory Committee (CCCTAC) the subject of the Benicia bridge toll gate problem was discussed and the proposal for an 18 lane toll plaza in the marshlands was intro- duced as a possibility. Supervisor Torlakson advised that there had been a propo- sal to substitute a gas tax equivalent for the nine bay area coun- ties in exchange for bridge tolls thereby eliminating the cost of toll gates and attendants, which tax would then be set to cover the cost of maintenance and repair and retirement of the bonds. He advised .that he would like to have Public Works investigate that proposal. Supervisor Torlakson also discussed the proposal for a toll-free day. As recommended by Supervisor Torlakson, IT IS BY THE BOARD ORDERED that the Public Works Director is REQUESTED to review the proposal to substitute equivalent gas tax for bridge tolls and to explore with CALTRANS. As recommended by Supervisor Schroder, IT IS BY THE BOARD ORDERED that the Public Works Director is REQUESTED to secure information from the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, as the regional planning agency, with respect the feasibility of pursuing the above proposal or a user tax.
