SUBJECT : Benicia Bridge tolls proposal to replace with gas tax
Supervisor Torlakson announced that at a recent meeting of
the Contra Costa County Transportation Advisory Committee (CCCTAC)
the subject of the Benicia bridge toll gate problem was discussed and
the proposal for an 18 lane toll plaza in the marshlands was intro-
duced as a possibility.
Supervisor Torlakson advised that there had been a propo-
sal to substitute a gas tax equivalent for the nine bay area coun-
ties in exchange for bridge tolls thereby eliminating the cost of
toll gates and attendants, which tax would then be set to cover the
cost of maintenance and repair and retirement of the bonds. He
advised .that he would like to have Public Works investigate that
proposal.
Supervisor Torlakson also discussed the proposal for a
toll-free day.
As recommended by Supervisor Torlakson, IT IS BY THE BOARD
ORDERED that the Public Works Director is REQUESTED to review the
proposal to substitute equivalent gas tax for bridge tolls and to
explore with CALTRANS.
As recommended by Supervisor Schroder, IT IS BY THE BOARD
ORDERED that the Public Works Director is REQUESTED to secure
information from the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, as the
regional planning agency, with respect the feasibility of pursuing
the above proposal or a user tax.
I hereby certify that th!a Is as true and correct copy of
an action takers and entered on the minutes of the
