HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 03251986 - 2.2 11 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA Adopted this Order on March 25 , 1986 , by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Fanden, Schroder, McPeak, Torlakson, Powers NOES: None ABSENT: None ABSTAIN: None -------------------------------------------------------------------- SUBJECT: Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Board of Commissioners - City Representation On February 25 , 1986 the Board requested County Counsel to review Resolution 69/181 as it pertained to the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, and to revise it as necessary to allow for the appointment of a representative from the City of Martinez on the Board of Commissioners. Victor J. Westman, County Counsel, presented to the Board a resolution providing for a Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Board consisting of representatives nominated by the five cities with the highest assessed valuation in the District. Supervisor Robert Schroder expressed concern about elimi- nating the at-large position representing the unincorporated area of the District. Supervisor Torlakson suggested that the Internal Operations Committee review the feasibility of creating a seven member Commission, thereby providing permanent representation from the unincorporated area of the District as well as the five cities. Russ Greenlaw, President, United Professional Fire Fighters Local 1230 , stated that his organization recommends a seven member Commission composed of representatives from each of the six cities in the District (Clayton, Concord, Lafayette, Martinez, Pleasant Hill and Walnut Creek) and a representative from the unincorporated area. Supervisor Nancy Fanden noted that the Board had made a commitment to the City of Martinez to fill the next vacancy on the Board of Commissioners with a representative from Martinez. Board members being in agreement, IT IS ORDERED that the appointment of a representative from the City of Martinez to fill the current vacancy on the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Board of Commissioners is APPROVED. IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that the question of city and unin- corporated area representation on the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Board of Commissioners is REFERRED to the Internal Operations Committee for review.
