SUBJECT: Contra Costa County Fire Protection District
Board of Commissioners - City Representation
On February 25 , 1986 the Board requested County Counsel to
review Resolution 69/181 as it pertained to the Contra Costa County
Fire Protection District, and to revise it as necessary to allow for
the appointment of a representative from the City of Martinez on the
Board of Commissioners. Victor J. Westman, County Counsel, presented
to the Board a resolution providing for a Contra Costa County Fire
Protection District Board consisting of representatives nominated by
the five cities with the highest assessed valuation in the District.
Supervisor Robert Schroder expressed concern about elimi-
nating the at-large position representing the unincorporated area of
the District.
Supervisor Torlakson suggested that the Internal Operations
Committee review the feasibility of creating a seven member
Commission, thereby providing permanent representation from the
unincorporated area of the District as well as the five cities.
Russ Greenlaw, President, United Professional Fire Fighters
Local 1230 , stated that his organization recommends a seven member
Commission composed of representatives from each of the six cities
in the District (Clayton, Concord, Lafayette, Martinez, Pleasant Hill
and Walnut Creek) and a representative from the unincorporated area.
Supervisor Nancy Fanden noted that the Board had made a
commitment to the City of Martinez to fill the next vacancy on the
Board of Commissioners with a representative from Martinez.
Board members being in agreement, IT IS ORDERED that the
appointment of a representative from the City of Martinez to fill
the current vacancy on the Contra Costa County Fire Protection
District Board of Commissioners is APPROVED.
IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that the question of city and unin-
corporated area representation on the Contra Costa County Fire
Protection District Board of Commissioners is REFERRED to the
Internal Operations Committee for review.
C C: City of Martinez I hereby certify that this is a true and correct copy of
CCC FPD an action taken and entered on the minutes of the
