A total of $15,000 is required to keep the Project Self-Sufficiency Program
operational for another year. Twenty-four Section 8 Certificates have been issued
to date and the Project Self-Sufficiency Task Force, of which the Housing Authority
is a member, strongly recommends that the program be continued for another year. As
a result of this Project, a number of single parent families have received counseling
and assistance in overcoming numerous socio-economic barriers and are striving to
achieve self-sufficiency.
At its Regular Meeting on February 24, 1986, the Advisory Housing Commission
voted to recommend the Housing Authority's continued participation in the Project
Self-Sufficiency Task Force and provision of $5,000 in funding from the Housing
Authority to assist in the purchase of continued counseling services from the Mt.
Diablo Adult Education Program.
IV. CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
Should the Board of Commissioners elect to not approve continued participation
in the Project Self-Sufficiency Task Force by the Housing Authority of the County of
Contra Costa and provide $5,000 in funding from Housing Authority funds to purchase
continued Individual and Career Counselling Services from the Mt. Diablo Adult
Education Program for the Project Self-Sufficiency Program, the Housing Authority
would lose a valuable tool in assisting single parent families to become self-
sustaining members of the community.
