Establish the class of Central Supply Manager and allocate to the Basic Salary
Schedule at salary level C5-1648 ($2360-2869) ; classify 1 position and cancel
Central Supply Supervisor, position #54-004, salary level C5-1209 ($1522-1850);
and abandon the class of Central Supply Supervisor.
This class is exempt from overtime.
Amend Resolution 71/17 establishing positions and resolutions allocating classes to the
Basic/Exempt Salary Schedule, as described above.

CENTRAL SUPPLY MANAGER
DEFINITION:
Under general supervision, to plan, organize and direct Central Supply
activities at the Main Medical Center; to supervise the work of subordinate
staff assigned to the Central Supply Service; and to do related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This single position class functions as a first line supervisor responsi-
ble for the day to day management of Central Supply Services. It is distinguished
from the class of Central Supply Technician in that incumbents in the latter class .
are engaged in the routine cleaning, sterilization, maintenance and delivery of
surgical instruments, medical supplies and related equipment used in patient care
activities. It is further distinguished in that this class requires a Registered
Nurse license because of its infection control and quality assurance responsibilities
and the need for technical knowledge of patient care requirements.
The incumbent reports to the Associate Hospital Executive Director -
Patient Care.
TYPICAL TASKS:
Supervises the day to day operations of Central Supply processing and
distribution; establishes and monitors professional standards of practice for
infection control, and quality assurance to meet accrediting entities requirements;
writes policies and procedures for the correct processing, storage and distribution
of Central Supply equipment and supplies; inspects work performed to ensure correct
procedures were followed; maintains a safe work environment; monitors the performance
of hazardous substance procedures; coordinates department-wide recall of supplies and
equipment as requested by the manufacturer or Health Services Administration; main-
tains and monitors a system for routine ordering, tracking of back orders and
identification of appropriate substitutes; orders specialized equipment for the
operating room, inpatient units, and outpatient clinics; orders and tracks rental
equipment for routine and emergency needs; evaluates new equipment and supplies
presented by salespersons and arranges for their use on a trial basis as appropriate;
plans, organizes and supervises the daily, monthly, and annual inventory system;
oversees processing and batching of patient charge cards related to the billing
system; establishes and maintains a communications system to assure follow-up on
matters requiring special attention or coordination with other supervisors; par-
ticipates in the interviewing and hiring of new personnel ; arranges for and
conducts orientation, training and ongoing inservice education relative to Central
Supply- procedures for hospital staff; develops and adjusts work schedules to
maximize services within the available resources and assigns work to subordinates;
conducts performance evaluations, approves time off and monitors attendance of
subordinates; consults with and advises others regarding Central Supply related
issues; maintains records, attends meetings, and prepares reports of special
activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
License: Possession of a valid license as a Registered Nurse in the
State of California.
