(M347) 6/82 Contra Personnel Department pce Administration Bldg. Costa 651 Pine Street County Martinez, California 94553-1292 DATE: June 26, 1985 II TO: Files FROM: Randall C. Slusher SUBJECT: P300 # 13662: Reclassify three (3) Agricultural Biologist IIs to Agricultural Biologist III This memo explains the justification leading up to the establishment of the lead class of Agricultural Biologist III and the justification for subject P300. As a result of the 1983-1985 Memorandum of Understanding between Contra Costa County and Local 1, the County agreed to study the feasibility of establishing a third level of Agricultural Biologist. Staff began the feasibility study by talking with Chief Deputy Agricultural Commissioner with regard. to the intended use of the proposed class and by reviewing the task statements submitted by the incumbent Agricultural Biologist IIs. Basic to the department discussions and the task statements was the need to require all eight inspection certificates issued by the State in order to perform the full range of inspections and the fact that the proposed class would provide lead direction in two geographical areas to other biologists and state pest control crew persons in the field acting independently of direct supervision. Based upon the findings there exists a significant difference in duties from those of the Agricultural Biologist II thereby warranting the establishment of the proposed class of Agricultural Biologist III. To fill the three warrant positions classified in the class of Agri- cultural Biologist III a promotional exam was conducted, the resulting Ming period of which yielded four accepted applications. The number of accepted applications was less than that needed for a complete certification therefore provided in the Personnel Management Regulations a wa fiver of competition was requested by the Agricultural Department, reviewed and approved by the Personnel Department. The names were certified to the department and interviews were conducted. The three positions identified for reclassification are noted on P300 # 13662 as: # 33-00010, 1 33-00008, and # 33-00011.
