Spooner, Contracts Administrator COSta DATE: June 13, 1985 County SUBJECT: Approval of Contract 427-036-3 with Macdonald Avenue Pharmacy SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION s I. RECOMMENDED ACTION: Approve and authorize the Chairwoman to execute on behalf of the County, Contract #27-036-3 with Macdonald Avenue Pharmacy for provision of phar- maceutical services for the period July 1, 1985 - June 30, 1986, and automatically renewed each year unless terminated by 30-day written notice or mutual agreement by contractor and County. II. FINANCIAL IMPACT: Funding for this service will be included in the FY 1985-86 Department Budget. This contract is funded by Health Plan member premiums. Actual costs depends upon utilization. The County pays the current Medi-Cal rate for like service. III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS/BACKGROUND: The various Health Plan contracts require that the County provide certain benefit levels to Health Plan enrollees. The purpose of this Contract is to make available to Health Plan members prescribed medications which are not part of the County Hospital formulary, and therefore, not available through County-operated pharmacies. Initial contracts with these provi- ders were completed in 1977. The contract format is not for purposes of actually purchasing services, but assures that Health Plan enrollees will be protected should they receive service from this provider, and that the provider will be paid the Medi-Cal rate for like services. Since the contract payments are based on the Medi-Cal rate at the time services are rendered, the contract has been made automatically renewable from year to year unless terminated by 30-day notice or mutual consent of County and contractor. There are no other changes from the prior contracts with Macdonald Avenue Pharmacy. This document has been approved by the Department's Contracts and Grants Administrator in accordance with the guidelines approved by the Board's Order of December 1, 1981 (Guidelines for contract preparation and pro- cessing, Health Services Department).
