TO: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
Contra
FROM: RICHARD K. RAINEY, Sheriff-Coroner
Costa
DATE: June 14, 1985 County
SUBJECT: Execution of Equipment and Operation Agreement with the State Department
of Boating and Waterways
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION :
Authorize the Chairwoman of the Board of Supervisors to execute the Equipment and
Operation Agreement with the State Department of Boating and Waterways.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
There is no financial impact in executing the contract. Approximately $1,500 will
be expended in bringing the vessel up to specifications.
REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/IMPACT:
A 1978 21' Sea Ray boat, previously operated by Colusa County, has been made available .
to Contra Costa County by the State Department of Boating and Waterways. The
Sheriff's Department's Marine Services Bureau is in need of additional boats and other
equipment in order to expand its operations beginning July, 1985. The Board of
Supervisors and this department have identified the need to expand marine patrol
services. We can take immediate possession of an operationally-sound vessel at minimal
cost.
CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION :
There is a critical need for additional marine patrol boats on the county's waterways
as of July 1, 1985, in order for our county to qualify for the funds being made available
from a state grant. Failure to execute this contract will impact our ability to meet
grant requirements.
