TO: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
FROM: Supervisor Tom Torlakson Contra
Costa
DATE: June 18, 1985 County
SUBJECT: SB 1210, THE ELDER ABUSE REPORTING LAW
SPECIFIC REQUESTS) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: I received the attached correspondence
from Helen Ausenbaum, Co-Chair of the Mental Health Task Force on
Aging, and Walter Blumst, President of the Advisory Council on Aging
regarding SB 1210, the Elder Abuse Reporting law. This law went into
effect in January 1985 but is apparently not being fully implemented
in Contra Costa County. There is no central agency in our county
serving as a clearinghouse for collection of statistics on reported
abuse and there has not been any coordinated effort to dissemnate
information about SB 1210.
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Ask the County Administrator, County
Counsel, and the Social Services Director to review this legislation .
and file state claim or legal action if necessary and appropriate to
get funds to implement the program.
