Martinez Manufacturing Complex for Successfully Completing Resolution No. 85/222 5 Million Safe Work Hours WHEREAS Shell Oil Company's Martinez Manufacturing Complex, currently recognized as the safest refining complex in the nation, reached another safety milestone when its nearly 1,000 employees successfully completed 5 million work hours without a lost-time injury; and WHEREAS this remarkable safety record started on October 4, 1982 and has continued uninterrupted for more than 2k years - 938 days; and WHEREAS to achieve a record of this magnitude every employee had to become a part of the team effort; and WHEREAS during this 5 million hour period, Complex employees have a recordable frequency rate of only 0.52 with only 13 such injuries. That equates to only one such injury for nearly 385,000 of work, and WHEREAS Shell Oil Company's Martinez Manufacturing Complex has recently received national awards from the National Petroleum Refiners Association (NPRA), the National Safety Council (NSC) , and the Chemical Manufacturing Association (CMA), and WHEREAS the Complex's Chemical Plant received one of NSC's national awards - the Award of Merit, as well as, the CMA's Certificate of Honor - the fifth straight year CMA has honored the plant; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Contra Costa, California, hereby extends our congratulations and best wishes to the nearly 1,000 employees who successfully completed 5 million ' safe work hours to reach this milestone. PASSED AND ADOPTED on May 7, 1985, by the unanimous vote of the Board Members present. I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of a resolution entered in the minutes of the Board of Supervisors on the date aforesaid.
