NOES: None. ABSENT: None. ABSTAIN: None. SUBJECT:, ) RESOLUTION NO. 85/221 Adopt Position of ) Support for SB 785 ) WHEREAS Senator Daniel E. Boatwright has introduced Senate Bill 785 in the State Legislature at the request of the Trustees of the 'California State University; and WHEREAS SB 785 would require the Trustees to establish a permanent off-campus center on State-owned property in Contra Costa County in order to make education programs at the upper division and graduate levels available in that area; and WHEREAS Contra Costa County is the only one of the ten largest California counties without a permanent publicly supported four-year college or university; and WHEREAS this County is the fourth fastest-growing county in the State with a population of nearly 700,000, and with new office parks and business growth enlarging the professional workforce and adding tremendously to the demand for a State college; and WHEREAS community colleges have more than 39,000 students, with many graduates unable to go away to' college, but who could afford to attend college while continuing to live at home using private ,or public transportation to attend as day students; and WHEREAS enrollment at the California State Hayward satellite campus in Pleasant Hill increased from 250 to 1, 100 students in four years demonstrating the interest and need for higher education opportunities for our residents; and WHEREAS an appropriate 380-acre site on Ygnacio Valley Road in Concord has been owned by the State since 1969 for the purposes' of building such an educational facility; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY that a position of support for Senate Bill 785 is APPROVED, and that Senator Boatwright is commended for and encouraged to continue his efforts on behalf of the citizens of this County. PASSED by unanimous vote of .the Board Members present on this 7thday of- May, 1985.
