HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 05071985 - 1.28 TO: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS FROM: Phil Batchelor, County Administrator Contra Costa DATE: - ` April 29, 1985 County SUBJECT: Legislation: AB 2207 (Konnyu) SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION: Adopt a position of opposition to AB 2207 by Assemblyman Konnyu, which would reduce the State share of foster care payments from 95% to 50% of the non-federal share. BACKGROUND: AB 2207 is the Administration' s proposal to reduce the State' s share of foster care from 95% to 50% effective January 1, 1986 when the existing 95% State share will expire. The Board is already on record in favor of the County-sponsored legislation which will continue the 95% State share indefinitely (AB 454 and SB 1078) . Passage of AB 2207 would cost Contra Costa County approximately $1 ,055,075 for the last half of the 1985-1986 fiscal year and more than $2 million a year thereafter. The issue of foster care funding is one of the major budgetary issues confronting the County this fiscal year and strong opposition to the Administration' s proposal is essential in order to assist in balancing the County' s 1985-1986 budget. It is, therefore, recommended that the Board strongly oppose AB 2207.
