HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 05141985 - X.18 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Commending the ) Honorable George Donnell Carroll ) RESOLUTION NO. 85/249 upon his Retirement from the Bay ) Judicial District Municipal ) Court Bench ) WHEREAS the Honorable George D. Carroll is retiring on June 7, 1985 from service on the Bay Judicial District Municipal Court Bench to which he was appointed by Governor Edmund "Pat" Brown on May 25, 1965 and to which he was reelected without opposition in 1970, 1976 and 1982; and WHEREAS not only has Judge Carroll been involved in West Contra Costa's legal and judicial matters for thirty-three years but has also served his community by serving on the Richmond City Council from 1961 to 1964 as the city's first black council member and as the city's mayor in 1964; and WHEREAS Judge Carroll has further served his community by his participation in the Kiwanis Club of Richmond, Boule Sigma Pi Phi , and the Richmond Boys' Club; and WHEREAS the leadership qualities of Judge Carroll are exemplified by his having served as Presiding Judge of the Bay Judicial District Municipal Court in 1967, 19709 19739 1976, 1979 and 1983 and by his presi- dency of the Richmond Bar Association in 1962; and WHEREAS Judge Carroll is highly respected by his peers and has been approached to serve on higher courts but declined; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County, that the Honorable George D. Carroll be highly COMMENDED for _ his dedication and devotion to the citizens of West Contra Costa County; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors EXTENDS to Judge Carroll its best wishes for a long, happy and rewarding retirement. PASSED by the Board of Supervisors on May 14, 1985 by unanimous vote of the Board members present. I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of an order entered on the minutes of said Board of Supervisors on the date aforesaid.
