THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS, HOUSING AUTHORITY OF THE COUNTY OF CONTRA COSTA
Adopted this Order on April 9 , 1985 , by the following vote:
AYES: Commissioners Powers , McPeak, Schroder , Torlakson, Fanden.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
ABSTAIN: None .
SUBJECT: Approve set aside of $5,000 from Housing Authority Local Management
Fund to be used as college scholarship awards in 1985 and authorize
the Long Range Strategy Committee of the Advisory Housing Commission
and Housing Authority staff to proceed with implementation of the
College Scholarship Awards program.
The Board of Commissioners, having received and reviewed a report
from the Executive Director of the Housing Authority of the County of Contra
Costa requesting approval for the set aside of $5,000 from the Housing Authority
Local Management Fund to establish a college scholarship award program for
current residents of public housing developments administered by the Housing
Authority of the County of Contra Costa. A College Scholarship Awards program
has been developed by the Long Range Strategy Committee of the Advisory Housing
Commission with one year grant awards in the following amounts:
$500 - for students who will attend a four-year college.
$250 - for students who will attend a community college or
vocational/technical school .
The Long Range Strategy Committee has also developed a list of
criteria and applicants will be judged on financial need, scholastic record,
activity or work record, evidence of leadership and character, letters of
recommendation, and additional scholarship application information.
IT IS BY THE BOARD ORDERED that the request for a $5,000 set aside
from the Housing Authority Local Management Fund to be used as college
scholarship awards in 1985 is APPROVED and the Long Range Strategy Committee of
the Advisory Housing Commision and Housing Authority staff are AUTHORIZED to
proceed with implementation of a College Scholarship Awards program, with awards
for one year grants of $500 for students who will attend a four-year college and
$250 for students who will attend a community college or vocational/technical
school , based on the criteria established by the Long Range Strategy Committee,
as recommended by the Advisory Housing Commission.
