FROM: Mark Finucane, Health Services Director Contra
By: Elizabeth A. Spooner, Contracts AdministratorCosta
DATE: March 28, 1985 County
SUBJECT: Approval of Contract Amefidment Agreement #26-110-9 with Medical Personnel Pool
of Contra Costa County, Inc.
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
I. RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Approve and authorize the Chairwoman to execute on behalf of the County, Contract
Amendment Agreement #26-110-9 with Medical Personnel Pool of Contra Costa County,
Inc., effective April 10, 1985, for an increased level of nursing registry services
services_ at County Hospital; said amendment provides for an increase in the
contract payment limit of $30,000 (from $75,000 to a new total payment limit of
$105,000).
II. FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The original Contract Payment Limit ($75,000) is funded in the Hospital Division's
Enterprise I Budget (Cost Center 6544) for FY 84-85. The payment limit increase
($30,000) will be funded from money previously budgeted for nursing positions which
are vacant, funded, but unfillable at this time.
III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND:
On September 18, 1984, the Board approved Contract #26-110-8 with Medical Personnel
Pool of Contra Costa, Inc. , in the amount of $75,000 for the period October 1, 1984
- June 30, 1985 for temporary licensed nursing personnel to assist County Hospital
and Clinics during peak loads, temporary absences and emergency situations.
This contract amendment agreement is requested to supplement the nursing registry
services which are exceeding the original estimate of $6,250 monthly due to
unfilled vacant positions and the fluctuating census. Recently there has been
an increase in the census, particularly in the Hospital's Intensive Care Unit.
IV. CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
Failure to approve this contract will result in inability to staff the Intensive
Care Unit, forcing the Hospital to divert patients to other facilities. Should
this occur, the Department may be required to notify . the State of an "Unusual
Occurence" as defined in Title XXII, Section 70737a.
