SUBJECT: Energy Conservation Assistance. Loan Agreement
Specific Requests or Recommendations & Background & Justification
I. RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Authorize and direct the Public Works Director to execute an energy conservation
assistance loan agreement and promissory note in the amount of $77,325 with the
California Energy Commission.
II. FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Completion of the project will save the County and estimated $16,700 each year on
electrical costs with a project payback of 4.6 years. The loan will be paid back out
of energy savings.
III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION:
On October 30' 1984 the Board of Supervisors directed and authorized the Public Works
Director to submit a loan application to the California Energy Commission for the
conversion of 233 incandescent and mercury p4*,king lot lights to high pressure sodium
lights. The project will reduce energy consumption by more than 60% (from 377,000
kwh per year to 137,000 kwh per year) while maintaining approximately the same light
levels.
This project is part of the Public Works Department's program to minimize energy
costs in County facilities.
The loan agreement and promissory note forms are the same as previous agreements
approved by, County Counsel as to form.
