RECOMMENDED ACTION: Approve acquisition of one IBM disk controller, two IBM disk drives for the County central data center to support the expanded Land Information System. II. FINANCIAL IMPACT: In Fiscal Year 84-85 an additional $7,172 over current expenditures for disks will be required and was included in the budget for the year. The contract is for a five-year lease purchase with Fiscal Year 85-86 additional cost of $28,061 and $26,700 for each remaining year of the contract. III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION: The proposed equipment provides twice the amount of data storage capacity but requires less equivalent computer room floor space. The data center computer room is extremely crowded and is pushing its limits of power and air conditioning capacity. These proposed devices also require about 10% less power and 11% less air conditioning power for double the data storage. The advanced technology incorporated in these units makes them the most reliable type of storage devices, the most critical factorlfor providing error-free online -availability. A review of available disk devices from vendors making IBM compatible equipment reveals only IBM as a source of disks which can be even further upgraded within the same physical unit. Because of the severe space constraints in the computer room, these units are the most economical storage devices for the County for the long term. Additional disk space is immediately required for the expansion of the Land Information System database to accomodate the requirements of the Assessors online update and to support the Supplemental Assessment System. The completion of these systems will also enable the Assessor to eliminate the current Secured Roll Batch System. These systems are the tools necessary to assure the timely process of supplemental tax bills and expedite the return of resulting revenue to the County. County Administrator 9•c CC: Auditor-Controller ATTESTED Assessor PHIL BATCHELOR, CLERK OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS AND COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR Contractor M882/7-88 BY DEPUTY -2- IV. CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION: The requirements of the Assessor for LIS and Supplemental Assessment cannot be met with the currently available disk storage. There is insufficient floor space to add enough units of the currently-used disks to provide adequate data capacity. I Therefore, Supplemental Tax revenues will be severely impacted if committments to these systems are not continued. i CC: Tom Welch, Deputy County Administrator I I
