ABSTAIN: None
SUBJECT: Proposed Re-entry Facility to be Located in
the City of Richmond
The Board on May 8 , 1984 , authorized the Chairman to
write to the Director, State Department of Corrections ,
opposing the establishment of a re-entry facility for state
prisoners in the City of Richmond and requesting an immediate
meeting with state officials on said issue .
The Board received a letter, dated May 21 , 1984 , from
Howard D. Miller, Deputy Director, State Department of
Corrections , expressing an interest in meeting with repre-
sentatives of the County to discuss said issue .
Supervisor T . Powers , whose District includes the
Richmond area , recomfi;ended that he and George Roemer, Director
of the Criminal Justice Agency, be authorized to arrange a
meeting with representatives of the State Department of
Corrections to discuss the proposed Richmond re-entry facility ,
said meeting to include the following : Sheriff-Coroner
Richard Rainey, Tim Shelley of Senator Boatwright ' s office ,
Richmond Police Chief Earnest Clements , Mayor Thomas J . Corcoran
of the City of Richmond , and Peter Christiansen , Chairman of
the Correctional and Detention Services Advisory Committee .
Board members being in agreement , IT IS ORDERED that the
recommendation of Supervisor Powers is APPROVED.
