HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 06191984 - X.9 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA Adopted this Order on June 19, 1984 by the -following vote: AYES: Supervisors Powers, Fanden, Schroder, Torlakson NOES: None ABSENT: Supervisor McPeak ABSTAIN: None SUBJECT: Eviction of Private Patients from Nursing Homes When Their Financial Resources are Depleted Supervisor Nancy C. Fanden advised the Board that she has received a letter from Mrs. June Sanchez, 5852 Nottingham Drive, E1 Sobrante 94803, regarding the closure of the Superior Care Center, located at 13484 San Pablo Avenue, San Pablo 94806, and the effect it will have on 200 residents (mostly elderly) who will be required to seek other homes/facilities to provide for their care. Supervisor Fanden expressed concern with respect to the impact this would have on existing convalescent or residential care facilities in attempting to absorb so large a number of patients. She recommended that this matter be referred to the County Administrator. Supervisor Fanden noted that the City of Berkeley has recently enacted an ordinance that would prevent nursing homes from evicting private patients once their financial resources are depleted and they become eligible for Medi-Cal benefits. She recommended that County Counsel be requested to review the feasibility of a similar type ordinance for Contra Costa County and to report to the Board as soon as possible. IT IS BY THE BOARD ORDERED that the recommendations of Supervisor Fanden are APPROVED. 1 hereby certify that this Is a true and correct copy of an action taken and entered on the minutes of the Board of Supery rs on the dale shown.
