HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 06191984 - T.6 T.6 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY,CALIFORNIA Adopted this Order on June 19, 1984 .by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Powers, Fanden, Torlakson, Schroder NOES: None ABSENT: Supervisor McPeak ABSTAIN: None SUBJECT: Proposed Reductions in the Health Services Department The County Administrator and Health Services Director presented their report on the need for reductions in the Health Services Department which is the purpose for this hearing. The Board's attention was called to the priority listing on the list of proposed reductions in the Department and decision(s) of the Board is required today. It was noted i that the notices for this hearing were published and posted in accordance with statutory j requirements.. ! I The hearing was opened and the Chair invited all persons desiring to present testimony to come forward. Comments expressed ranged from opposition to suport for the closure of the Richmond Health Clinic; possible reduction of other County services to fund the Health Services Department; the quality of care provided at County health facilities; the number of employees scheduled for layoff and potential impact on the indigent population. All persons desiring to speak having been heard, the hearing was CLOSED. Board members discussed the impact of the reductions on the public, County I staff, and the patients who must avail themselves of County health services. There was consensus on the need to approve some of the reductions because to delay would incur more debt. Therefore, IT IS BY THE BOARD ORDERED that Priorities Nos. 1 and 2 on the prioritized list of the proposed reductions in the Health Services Department are APPROVED. IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that action is DEFERRED to June 26, 1984, at 2:30 p.m. on the remaining items on said list. IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that the Board DECLARES its intent not to close the Richmond Health Clinic. IT IS ALSO ORDERED that County Counsel is REQUESTED to prepare appropriate findings for the Board's consideration on June 26, 1984.
