Martingtz Job Classification Work Location rets Percent Of Description-of Work: Time Required This position will perform the following: FINANCIAL CLEARANCE The purpose of financial clearance is to obtain accurate information regarding the financial status of the patients in order to facilitate collecting of revenue. The main tool of this work is a form used to update information for the CHAS computer and the Health Plan computer; an on-line system. If this information is incomplete or inaccurate it will result in: loss of money to the hospital and or the patient, delay of payments or altogether unbillable visits. Personal information (i .e. names, aka, mother's maiden name, social security number, •address etc.) along with billing information is re- quired. The gathering of information used in updating begins by looking up present and past names of all patients on a type of microfilm known as microfiche. In this process it is necessary to view anywhere from 2 to 8 microfiche. One must have knowledge and background on the billing requirements of Medi=Cal , Medi-Care, Health Plan and private insurances in order to understand the information these tapes provide. The screening process is very important in determining any prior medical treatment at any of the County's medical facilities and eliminates duplication of a unit record number (Medical chart). If this occurs it can result in crucial medical information getting into one file and not the other. This kind of mistake could result in a life :threatening situation. Financial Clearance is performed in Emergency Room Reception, Outpatient Specialty Clinic Reception and Dental Reception. RECEPTION - TELEPHONES Reception (Emergency) houses the telephone switchboard and directs all call'. to the necessary areas. The switchboard is a source of general inforamtion When newspapers, relatives , clergy, ambulance companies or anyone else calls regarding the status or even physical presence of a patient the receptionist is governed by legalities as to what can and/or cannot be divulged.Breech of confidentiality can result in legal action against the County. The Code Blue phone is located in Emergency Room Reception. When this . phone rings it is the responsibility of the receptionist to inform the medical personnel of the whereabouts of the patient involved in a clear, concise and accurate manner- Failure to do so could result in the pateint', demise. The fire alarm also is located in the Emergency Room Reception and when it rings, the receptionist must overhead the Redstone and location, deter- mine. whether it is a false alarm and notify the Fire Department (to stop the fire truck) or if it is not a false alarm but is a small fire and has been put out. In the case of the latter, the Fire Department must still respond to be sure the fire is out. Bay Alarm must also be notified with all the detail;'and the Hospital Engineer called to reset the alarm. RECEPTION - HUMAN INTERACTION Every function of Reception involves human interaction, be it with your , co-workers or with patients. The patients however, are the primary cause of stress because you are dealing with physically and/or mentally ill people. All react differently and the receptionist must be alert to any signs of violence or acute illness. Work is reviewed (spot checked) daily and in the case of computer rejections returned for correction unless the error appears to be habitual . In the case of the latter, the D level clerk or Supervising Clerk goes over to ensure complete understanding 4. Where is your supervisor located in proximity to your desk? D level clerk is on site. In her/his absence the Supervising Clerk is only about 20 feet away. 5. What are the most important assignments you perform and why? Financial Clearance because of the monetary impact. Being a representative of the County to the patient and insuring that the patient leaves this facility with the feeling they have received the Best medical care. 6. The work is constantly changing with new revisions to aid in the billing process and there is an exception to every rule. The most difficult is keeping abreast of the current procedures. 7.
