WORKING JOB TITLE Placa of Work and Assigned Hours IntermediateClerk Clerical - Level B Time Required Description of Work: 50% Transcribing Doctor's Written Orders: Transcribing the doctor's written orders may involve performing any' combination of the following: Ordering medicines from pharmacy, writing medicine tickets for the nursing rand, updating the patient's medication record sheet, calling the kitchen or a dietitian, delivering X-ray requests to the X-ray Department, completing laboratory test order slips , notifying Physical Therapy or Respiratory Therapy of new orders, relaying orders to an IV nurse or to an LVN, and recopying the orders onto two separate- nursing work rands. 20% Receptionist Duties and Assisting the Public: Serves as the receptionist for the ward involves the following duties: Assisting the public at the desk and over the phone which requires knowledge of the functions of the ward as well as other hospital departments in order to supply routine information to them. Take and relay messages to the doctors, nurses, and patients. Use judgement on when to answer a question regarding a patient or to refer the question to the doctor or nurse in charge. Make calls to other departments for services or supplies as requested by a doctor or nurse. Receive all phone calls and assist them or redirect them as necessary. 107. Patient Admission and Discharge Procedures: Upon admission. of a patient to the ward; notify the doctor who will be assigned to that patient's care, record the patient's name, hospital number, and time of admission in the ward census book, stamp the routine medical sheets needed and construct a patient chart, complete a patient card for the nursing rand, place a name tag on the patient's bed, and order a diet for the patient if necessary. Upon discharging a patient from the ward; order the discharge medications from the pharmacy, call the appro- priate medical clinic and make a follow-up appointment for the patient, call the patient's family or make arrangements for trans- portation home, notify the Public Health Nurse or Social Worker if follow-up care is needed at home, and after discharge to disassemble the patient's chart and reassemble the papers into the patient's hospital file before sending it to Medical Records. 20% Miscellaneous Duties: Icord the daily morning patient vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) on the graphic sheet of their indivi- dual medical charts . File X-ray, EKG, and laboratory reports in the appropriate patient's charts as they are received from these various departments.
