SUBJECT: National Police Week
WHEREAS National Police Week was established by Presidential
Proclamation in 1960 to recognize the hazardous work, duties, and
responsibilities of our nation' s peace officers; and
WHEREAS in conjunction with this week, May 15 is observed
each year as Peace Officers Memorial Day to commemorate the sacrifices
and commitment of the officers; and
WHEREAS crime rates remain high in our state and nation
despite intensified law enforcement efforts; and
WHEREAS improved law enforcement techniques and increased
citizen involvement are necessary to insure reduction of the crime
rate in communities across the country; and
WHEREAS citizen support of law enforcement serves to unite
our efforts to reduce crime;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors
of Contra Costa County does hereby PROCLAIM the week of May 13-19, 1984
as "National Police Week" and May 15, 1984 as "Peace Officers Memorial
Day" in Contra Costa County.
