AYES: Supervisors Fanden, Schroder, McPeak, Torlakson
NOES: None
ABSENT: Supervisor Powers
ABSTAIN: None
SUBJECT: Evening Board Meetings
Supervisor McPeak having advised that she had received a
letter from some of her constituents requesting that the Board hold
a hearing in the evening on a zoning matter, scheduled for May 8,
1984, at 2: 30 p.m. , in the vicinity of Taylor Boulevard and Grayson
Road in the Pleasant Bill area, so as to enable residents in the
subject area to more conveniently attend said hearing; and
Supervisor Schroder having commented that he was not in
favor of holding Board of Supervisor' s meetings in the evening, and
that if this zequest were granted many other requests would follow;
and that he was of the opinion that the business of the Board should
be conducted at the regularly scheduled meetings during the day, but
if the Board did decide to grant such requests, that the cost of
conducting the night meeting should be borne by those requesting
same; and
Supervisor Torlakson having noted that he had received a
request from David R. Olick, attorney representing the homeowners
association opposed to the Four Winds Retirement Community Project,
requesting that the Board continue that hearing scheduled for April 10,
1984, to a later date and having noted that they also would like
an evening meeting, and having suggested that perhaps the two
meetings could be scheduled for the same evening; and
Supervisor Fanden having commented that she was in favor
of granting the request to enable the taxpayers to have access to
the Board, and that whatever can be done to involve the public in
the governmental process should be the goal; and
Supervisor Torlakson having stated that before he could
support the concept of evening meetings, he would like a report from
the County Administrator detailing the additional cost which might
be incurred by the Clerk of the Board, Planning, Public Works
Department, and other departments; and
