HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 04031984 - T.7 7=J THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA Adopted this Order on April 3, 1984 , by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Fanden, Schroder, McPeak, Torlakson NOES: None ABSENT: Supervisor Powers ABSTAIN: None SUBJECT: Evening Board Meetings Supervisor McPeak having advised that she had received a letter from some of her constituents requesting that the Board hold a hearing in the evening on a zoning matter, scheduled for May 8, 1984, at 2: 30 p.m. , in the vicinity of Taylor Boulevard and Grayson Road in the Pleasant Bill area, so as to enable residents in the subject area to more conveniently attend said hearing; and Supervisor Schroder having commented that he was not in favor of holding Board of Supervisor' s meetings in the evening, and that if this zequest were granted many other requests would follow; and that he was of the opinion that the business of the Board should be conducted at the regularly scheduled meetings during the day, but if the Board did decide to grant such requests, that the cost of conducting the night meeting should be borne by those requesting same; and Supervisor Torlakson having noted that he had received a request from David R. Olick, attorney representing the homeowners association opposed to the Four Winds Retirement Community Project, requesting that the Board continue that hearing scheduled for April 10, 1984, to a later date and having noted that they also would like an evening meeting, and having suggested that perhaps the two meetings could be scheduled for the same evening; and Supervisor Fanden having commented that she was in favor of granting the request to enable the taxpayers to have access to the Board, and that whatever can be done to involve the public in the governmental process should be the goal; and Supervisor Torlakson having stated that before he could support the concept of evening meetings, he would like a report from the County Administrator detailing the additional cost which might be incurred by the Clerk of the Board, Planning, Public Works Department, and other departments; and Board members having discussed the matter, IT IS ORDERED that the County Administrator is requested to submit a report on April 10, 1984, on the anticipated costs of holding a meeting of the Board of Supervisors in the evening on planning matters; IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that the Board hereby declares its intent that on April 10, 1984, the Board will continue to May 8, 1984, at a time to be determined on April 10, 1984, its hearing on the recommendation of the County Planning Commission with respect to rezoning applicaion 2549-RZ filed by Four Winds Retirement Community Project, to rezone land in the Clayton area. thereby oeHify that thla/s a true and correct copy of an action taken and entered on the minutes of the Ori g Dept: Clerk of the Board Board of Supervisors on the date shown. cc: County Administrator ATTESTED: � ,l Director of Planning T'"'�"' Public Works Director JA OLSSON, COUNTY CLERK County Counsel and ex officio Clerk of the Boer 0,r?
