HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 04241984 - X.14 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA Adopted this Order on April 24 , 1984 , by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Powers; Fanden, Torlakson NOES: None ABSENT: Supervisors Schroder, McPeak ABSTAIN: None SUBJECT: Proclaiming April 22-28, 1984, as National YWCA Week. WHEREAS, for 125 years the Young Women's Christian Association of the United States of America has pioneered in meeting the contemporary needs of women and girls in an ever more complex society, and WHEREAS, the YWCA has worked to open up to women and girls of all ages, races, ethnic, economic and religious backgrounds equal access to the lifestyle opportunities of their choice, and -WHEREAS, the YWCA has taken decisive and affirmative stands on such national issues as full and fair employment, the elimination of institutional racism, empowerment of women through legislation and legislative support systems, establish- ment of child care services, prevention of teenage pregnancy and protection of the vulnerable from violence, and WHEREAS, the YWCA of the USA as one of 83 members of the World YWCA, endorses peace and disarmament, and human rights internationally, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County hereby proclaim April 22-28, 1984, as National YWCA Week in Contra Costa County and invite our citizens to join with us in saluting the YWCA of Contra Costa County as it celebrates with some 450 community and student YWCAs composed of two and one-half million women and girls nationwide the 125th Anniversary of the YWCA of the United States .
