Dixon, Interim County Administrator ""' 'tom COSta DATE: April 3, 1984 ' Cloaqy SUBJECT: Relief of Cash Shortage in the Animal Services Department_ SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATIONS) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION REQUEST: Authorize relief of cash shortage in the total amount of $30.00 in revolving funds of the Animal Services Department pursuant to Government Code Section 29390 as recommended by the County Auditor-Controller and District Attorney. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION: The two clerks at the Spay Clinic balanced out their registers at the end of the day, Friday, March 2, 1984. The money bags were placed in the safe at the Martinez Center. When the clerk balanced the money the following Monday morning, the cash was $30.00 short. Upon i`nvesti'gati-on, the missing funds could not be found, and the Department Head notified the loss to the Auditor-Controller and District Attorney. Upon. review, both the Auditor-Controller and the District Attorney report that neither the shortage nor any delay in its discovery was caused by fraud or negligence. It is their opinion that it is extremely doubtful that the missing funds will be recovered and, therefore, under provisions of Government Code Section 29390, the Animal Services Department be relieved from shortage and that the amount of $30.00 be deemed a charge against the General Fund.
