DIRECT PATIENT CARE - Nursing Docmentation and Knowledge
Basic patient care utilizing knowledge and understanding of physiology,
30% pathophysiology of disease process. Integrates theory and practice.
Documents in writing, observations, histories, assessments and nursing
procedures of patients needing acute medical care, ie; acute myocardial
infarction, 'respiratory distress, acute cerebral-vascular accident, acute'
diabetic ketoacidosis and other medical conditions.

Performs technical skills as required by Nursing Policy/Procedures Manual

of, the California State Code.
Performs sterile procedures - catheterizations, dressings, ET-tube and
tracheal suctioning.
Performs nasogastric tube insertions, feedings and irrigationb. Vital
signs; takes and records temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respirations,
body weight and height.
50% Assists with liver biopsies, bone marrow aspirations, sigmoidoscopies,
lumbar punctures, thoracentesis, paracentesis, and other procedures.
Performs routine nursing duties, ie; making beds, lifting and moving
patients, feeding and maintaining patien't personal hygiene. Cares for
patients in strict isolation, recovers patients as needed, applies and
cares for patients in leather restraints.
Assists in occupational , physical and respiratory therapy programs.
Participates in orientation and on-the-Job training of assigned personnel
and student nurses.
Participates in discharge teaching and health education.
ADMINISTERS MEDICATIONS
Prepares and a'dministersmedications, orally, subcutaneously, and intra-
10% muscularly. Responsible for controlled drugs - including narcotics. Par-
tic(pates in resuscitation as required.
CLERICAL
Answers telephone inquireies concerning patient condition or health in-
formation and inter-departmental communications.

Notes and implements physician's orders.
Orders medical , stationary, storeroom and pharmacy supplies. _
