HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 03271984 - 1.31 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA Adopted this Order on March 27, 1984 , by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Powers , Fanden, Schroder , McPeak, Torlakson NOES: None ABSENT: None ABSTAIN: None SUBJECT: Proclaiming the Week of April 15-21, 1984 Victims Rights Week WHEREAS there has been insufficient attention to the rights of crime victims and witnesses in our society; and WHEREAS the public has an obligation to recognize the plight of crime victims and witnesses; and WHEREAS it is the duty of Contra Costa County' s citizens and institutions to play positive roles in improving the services for victims of violent crime and their families, and in restoring effectiveness to the administration of justice; and WHEREAS the hardship which crime victims and witnesses suffer may be physical, financial and emotional; and WHEREAS better reporting of crime and greater willingness of victims and witnesses to testify are essential to the control of crime and the improvement of justice; and WHEREAS the understanding by Contra Costa County citizens of the criminal justice system and the rights of crime victims and witnesses will help enhance the fair and effective administration of justice; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County that the week of April 15-21, 1984 shall be designated "Victims Rights Week" in Contra Costa County.
