HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 02071984 - X.12 In the Matter of Proclaiming ) the Week of March 4-10, 1984 ) National Women' s History Week) Resolution No. 84/86 and March 8, 1984 ) International Women' s Day ) WHEREAS the cultural, economic, political and social contribu- tions of women to America' s history are often overlooked, discounted, stereotyped or inaccurately portrayed; and WHEREAS the lives of women from the many cultures and experiences .that make up America receive little mention in the historical- and educa- tional literature and curricula; and WHEREAS the historical, cultural and political fabric of which America is woven would be structurally weakened without the weft of American women' s participation; and WHEREAS the many roles of women as wives and warriors, scientists and seamstresses, teachers and tradeswomen, musicians and mothers, artists and aviators, pioneers and poetesses, slaves and suffragettes are not often enough accorded the importance or study they deserve; and WHEREAS International Women' s Day was first procalimed seventy- six years ago to honor the heritage of America' s women and in particular, the contributions of American women to the labor movement; and WHEREAS International Women' s Day will be celebrated this year on March 8, 1984; and WHEREAS National Women' s History Week was first proclaimed by Presidential signature in 1982 as a result of the determined efforts of the Sonoma County Commission on the Status of Women; and WHEREAS the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors wishes to honor and recognize the achievements and vision of the many women, known and unknown, who have given to America' s history its great strength and hope; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF CONTRA COSTA, CALIFORNIA RESOLVED that we do hereby proclaim the week of March 4th through the 10th, 1984, as National Women' s History Week and OBSERVE March 8, 1984, as International Women's Day. PASSED AND ADOPTED by unanimous vote of the Board on the seventh day of February 1984. I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of a resolution entered on the minutes of the Board of Supervisors on the date aforesaid.
