IN THE MATTER OF APRIL 2006: RESOLUTION NO. 2006/168
DESIGNATED AS VOTER EDUCATION AND
PARTICIPATION MONTH FOR THE
JUNE 6, 2006 PRIMARY ELECTION
WIIEREAS; The California Association of Clerks and Election.O.ficials (CACEO) and Secretary of
State have worked as partners to encouragc:all eligible citizens to register and vote, and;
WHEREAS; the month of April 2006has been designated as "Voter Edification and Participation
Month" for the June 6, 20%.Primary.Election, and;
WHEREAS; the strength and vitality of a democratic:.society depend on the"consent of the governed"
and that consent is given at the ballot box, and'.
WHEREAS; the County of.Contra Costa supports programs toprovide nonpartisan information to
citizens to encourage them to participate in:the,..elect.ion process including:how and when to register to
vote, how::to vote by mail, how to find']n form ati on.about candidates and issues;:how to locate the
appropriate polling place, >,n, d how to f nd election results.on.the night of the election, and;
WIIEREAS; the Co my has several programs, venues, and activities to.communicate;with its residents
and voters about the importance of voting;

Costa does herebv recognize and officially endorse Apri12006 as....".Voter Education and Participation
Month" and directs the Clerk.of.the 130' ard to forward a copy.of this resolution o the Secretary of State;
and
13E IT FURTI.1 ER RESOLVED that Stephen:L:°Weir, County Clerk shall take appropriate action to
encourage all eligible citizens to register for and.vote in:the .Tune 6, 2006 Primary Election.
