In the Matter of Congratulating the )
Horizons Center on the Occasion of their ) Resolution No. 88/259
FIFTEENTH ANNIVERSARY on May 15, 1988 )
WHEREAS the Horizons Center opened its doors in April of
1973 (as the Martinez Discovery Center) in response to
commnity concern about the spread of illicit drugs in
Martinez and Central Contra Costa County; and
WHEREAS today there are five County staff, one City staff
and two interns, and
WHEREAS for the past seven years, an internship training
program has been utilized, taking on three interns annually
to fulfill the demand for counseling services; and
WHEREAS the Horizons Center has established a strong working
relationship with the schools through on-campus prevention
activities and counseling; and
WHEREAS the Horizons Center provides positive recreational
alternatives for at-risk youth to attend a sophisticated and
well managed group outdoor/wilderness adventure program
called the Wilderness Challenge Program; and
WHEREAS the Horizons Center is a joint partnership effort
between the County and City of Martinez, successfully
providing drug education and prevention to youth, adults and
families in the Martinez and Central Contra Costa County for
the past fifteen years;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors
of the County of Contra Costa, California, hereby
congratulates the Horizons Center on the occasion of their
FIFTEENTH ANNIVERSARY and conveys to the staff, clients and
hardworking supporters their admiration and respect for a
Job well done.
PASSED and ADOPTED by the unanimous vote of the Board on the
tenth day 'of May 1988.
I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct
copy of a resolution entered on the minutes of the Board of
Supervisors on the date aforesaid.
