THE VASCO ROAD SAFETY TASK FORCE
WHEREAS,The Vasco Road Safety Task Force was formed in 2003 by the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors to address the much required
need for increased safety and awareness among travelers on Vasco Road;and
WHEREAS, The Vasco Road Safety Task Force includes the following supporters:, State Senator Tom Torlakson, Congressman George Miller,
Congressman Jerry McNerney,Assemblyman District 15, Contra Costa County District I11 Supervisor (Millie Greenberg and Mary Nejedly
Piepho), Contra Costa County District V Supervisor Federal Glover, Alameda County Supervisor District I Scott Haggerty, California
Highway Patrol - Contra Costa and Alameda Divisions, City of Brentwood, City of Brentwood Public Works Department, City of
Brentwood Police Deportment, Contra Costa County Public Works Department, East Contra Costa Fire Protection District, City of
Livermore, City of Livermore Police Department, Alameda County Public Works Agency, City of Oakley, Contra Costa County
Transportation Authority, and eastern Contra Costa County Residents Jeff Altman,Annette Beckstrand,Al De Grande,Dave Walil,David
Piepho,Jim Frazier aid Walter lvlacVittie;and
WHEREAS,The Vasco Road Safety Task Force and Contra Costa County;in August of 2003, completed the signage and stuping needed for aerial
enforcement requested by the Califonna I3tghway"Pariol from�Wahmt Boulevard"to-Contra Costa County Line. Additionally,the Task Force
worked with Contra Costa County to add'double yellow hies inarcat ngno'passiing,zones to various locations along Vasco Road;and

WHEREAS The Vasco Road Safety Task Force„with the assistance of Senator Tom Torlakson duough Seri3te Bill 802,made Vasco Road eligible for
Interregional Transportatlonjiiipiovement Pmgxavr funds and'-
WHEREAS,The Vasco Road Safely Task Force;Contra Costa;County and,,laineda Cou a designated,Vasco R'oad.as a "Daylight Headlight' road

in October 2003 and later establislied-Vaseo.Road.as'a'Safety Corridor;and ., ..
WHEREAS, The Vasco Road Safety�Task Force and Contra Costa County analyzed possible.safetyimprovements needed on Vasco Road
coordinating between the City of Brentwood, City of Oakley, City of Livermore,Allameda County, Caltrans, California Highway Patrol aid
East Contra Costa Couuity Fire Protection District(ECCCFPD),staff;aid`
WHEREAS,The Vasco Road Safety Task Force and Contra Costa.Cotunty installed,niedian verncal delineators as well as`inedian and shoulder nunble
strips for a one mile test"section"iii October 2004;and
Contra Costa County,in°A"

WHEREAS, The lVascoFRoadrSafety Task,.Force arid=Contra Costa Cotuity,,in Sept'e"tuber 2005, installed over 800 addinotial median vertical
delineators along iyiflimedi-an'and slioiilde , le strips for a lengtli of 12:4 miles on'Vasco,Road adding to theoriginal test area;and
WHEREAS,The Vasco Road Safety Task Force,oath the assistunce'of Senator Tom Torlakson dnrough Senate Bill 3,'wlnchtwas signed by Governor
Sclnwarzenegger,designated Vasco°Road'as,a` onble Fine Zone ,and
WHEREAS,The Vasco Road Safety Task Force'and Alameda County have begun to aiptojecf straighten cu ves,md realign approximately 1.3 miles
of Vasco Road i n Alameda County,which will improve traffic flow and safety between die two Counties-and
WHEREAS, The Vasco Road Safety Task,Force leas worked,closely with the'Caltf5mia HiglivvayPatrolson the"`Duve Safe Stay Alive" campaign
which urges driver"s,to pay attention,diiVLdie speed limit and drive defensively on Vasco Road and
