IN THE MATTER OF RECOGNIZING RESOLUTION NO. 2005/481
THE REMARKABLE ACHIEVEMENTS OF
DR. HELEN CARR,AND CONGRATULATING HER ON
BEING NAMED CHANCELLOR OF THE C'ONT'RA
COSTA COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT
Whereas,Dr. Carr served with distinction as President of Contra Costa College from 1999 to the present;
and
Whereas, Dr. Carr, as President of Contra Costa College,was a visionary leader, steadfastly guiding the
college through difficult financial times and forged new relationships with the local community;
and
Whereas, Dr. Carr,worked hard to build trusting partnerships between Contra Costa College, Contra
Costa County, local cities and the business and civic community;and
Whereas, Dr. Carr expanded college'`enrollment and greatly improved communication among college staff,
faculty, and students;
Whereas, Dr. Carr served as Interim President at Contra Costa College,prior to being named as President;
and
Whereas,Dr. Carr was Vice Chancellor of Educational Programs and Services for the Contra Costa
Community College District in Martinez froin1992 to 1995 and from 1996 to 1997; and
Whereas, Dr. Carr was Interum President of Los Medanos College in Pittsburg from 1995 to 1996;and
Whereas, Dr. Carr has field several other administrative posts within the Contra Costa Community
College District dating back to 1990;and
Whereas, Prior to moving to California, Dr. Carr worked as a college administrator at Cedar Valley
College and Bishop College, both in Texas;and
Whereas, Helen Carr,who has a doctorate in English from Texas Woman's University,is z talented
English professor, with years of experience teaching college and high school courses in California
and Texas; and
Whereas, Dr. Helen Carr has been named the new Chancellor of the Contra Costa Community College
District;
NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Centra Costa County
congratulates DrHelen Carr on her distinguished new post as Chancellor of the Contra Costa
Community College District,and thanks her for the many years of service she has already provided
to the College District and Contra Costa County residents,
PASSED by unanimous vote of the Contra Costa�County Board of Supervisors on this 26th day of July
2005.
