THE ORIGINAL BUILDING OF
EL CERRITO HIGH SCHOOL,
SITE OF MORE THAN SIX'DECADES OF EDUCATION
FOR THOUSANDS OF YOUNG PEOPLE.
Whereas,El Cerrito High School was built as a combination High School and Junior High School in 1941;
and
Whereas, It became exclusively a High School in the 1950's, when Portola'Junior High,School opened;
and
Whereas, It has served West Contra:Costa with dignity,`as the proud home of educational excellence for
hundreds of thousands.of young people
Whereas, The students-t €El Cerrito;,High School have gone on to Interesting and successful careers in
everything From music to sports,and business to education to politics;'and
Whereas,Three years ago,West Contra Costa voters approved a school bond for improvements to middle
and high schools;and
Whereas,,A new school building will be built at the site of the current El C� tIo High School campus;and
Whereass .The old building will=be demol.ishedlstartitag,on May.1 ,200 �d "

NOW, THEREFOItt,;; BE IT RESOLVED that-the'Boa rd of Supervisors of Contra Costa County
honors the history of ;the old El Cerrito 14 School, and all of the ;lives it has touched,
congratulates the coirun»iiity."on.,the new school.:that will rise:in its place, and declares May 14,
2005'as "El Cerrito High School Dap"in Contra Costa County:
PASSED by unanimous vote of the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors on this 3rd day of May
2005
