In the Matter of Proclaiming January 2004 }
as "Volunteer Blood Donor Month" } RESOLUTION NO. 2004/20
WHEREAS the leaders of the nation's blood banking community are calling upon, all
eligible Americans to donate a combined total of 1.2 million units of bloodduring the month of
January 2004; and
WHEREAS this call to action comes at a time when blood is traditionally in short supply
due to the holidays, travel schedules, inclement weather and illness; and
WHEREAS, the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), America'a Blood Centers
(ABC), and the American Red Cross (ARC) issued this united challenge as the kickoff of National
Volunteer Blood Donor Month; and
WHEREAS this annual monthlong observance provides the blood banking community with
an opportunity to pay tribute to past and present blood donors, and to extend an invitation to those
healthy, eligible individuals who have previously never given the gift of life, to donate blood.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Board of E
Supervisors hereby proclaims the month of January 2004 as "Volunteer Blood Donor Month" in
Contra Costa County, pays tribute to these among us who generously donate, and urges all who are
physically able to give blood in this time of need.
PASSED AND ADOPTED ON January 6, 2004, by a unanimous vote of the Board members present.
