HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01012004 - 2004-106 77 In the Matter of a Proclamation Celebrating 40 Years of Community Action RESOLUTION NO.2004/106 WHEREAS,the United States of America was established to promote freedom and opportunity for people who have come from all across the world in various ways and for various reasons;and WHEREAS,the Constitution of the United States of America includes the concept of Promoting the General Welfare as a key element in this country's core values;and WHEREAS,the Congress of the United States of America has historically recognized that all residents have certain inalienable rights that need to be respected and protected;and WHEREAS,the Economic Opportunity Act was adopted by Congress in 2964 in response to the wishes of the American people to express and manifest the respect and protection needed to promote the general welfare;and WHEREAS,for 40 years the United States of America has enjoyed an incredible legacy of accomplishment by community action agencies that have moved millions of children,families and individuals from out of the yoke of poverty;and WHEREAS,the Promise of Community Action is"Community Action changes people's lives,embodies the spirit of hope,improves communities and makes America a better place to live. We care about the entire community and are dedicated to helping people help themselves and each other";and WHEREAS,the State of California and the County of Contra Costa have promoted self sufficiency through the efforts of the Contra Costa County Community Services Department that has provided opportunities and services including Head Stant,Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program(LIH AP), Weatherization,Family Support Services,and Community Revitalization efforts;and WHEREAS,the vision of ending poverty and the continued application of community action principles and methods is needed to further the accomplishments of promoting self-sufficiency opportunities to our residents. NOW,THEREFORE,RE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors acknowledges;the accomplishments of the Contra Costa County Community Services Department and it's fidelity to the mission of promoting self- sufficiency elfsufficiency and opportunity and supports the continuation of efforts to achieve greater results for the benefit of this community,state and country.
