HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01012004 - 2004-100 In the Matter of Honoring Al''Turner ) For his Contributions to Contra Costa County ) RESOLUTION NO. 20041100 WWEREAS,Al Turner,a child of Lucius and Effie Turner of Buena Vista, Georgia, moved to Pleasant Hill in 199.5 from Cazadero, California and- W WREAS, AI Turner, graduated from Marion County High School in Buena Vista, Georgia. In his younger days AI Turner worked as a farmer in rural Georgia. He later served in the U.S. Army in Germany and.Korea and; WMFRLAS, Al Turner, in the mid 1960's was appointed to the position of manager of Credit Card Processing for MasterCard, in San Francisco. He later went on to accept the position of Computer Data Manager for First Western Bank. In the early 1980's he was hired as a Computer Systems Manager at Bank of America. During this period, AI Turner faced major health issues and left data processing to open an Art Gallery in Oakland, California. At this time he became a community activist, helping AIDs patients and their families at Fairmont Hospital in Alameda County and; RWEREAS,Al Turner, after settling in Contra Costa County, became a supporter of the Meats on Wheels Program and is currently Co-President of the "Friends of Meals on Wheels" a volunteer organization. He also delivers Meals on Wheels to frail, homebound seniors on a weekly basis. .Al Turner is a volunteer for the Friendly Visitor Program and usually visits two clients a week. The visits include assisting his clients with little household projects, taking the clients shopping, out to breakfast, to the doctor or just chatting and, HWExtFAS,Al Turner, in his spare time, provides free graphic services to the Meals on Wheels Program and assists in their fisnd-raising activities. NOW, THEREFORF, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors extends to Al Turner special recognition for his outstanding and unselfish service for the betterment of the people in Contra Costa County, by declaring his birthday, March 9*as Alva,Lee Turner Day with our best wishes.
