Shelter Survey (inventory of existing structures that will afford such '',protection) is a oontinning progras►; and WHEMS the National Community Shelter Plan Program includes information to inform the population of the location of these structures and how to use them, or how to best protect themselves if no adequate shelter could be reached in the event of nuclear war; and EAS a; County Bay :Area Communit Shelter Plan has been prepared by the; Assoeiation of B.ay Area Gov+ernmaints upon the joint initiative of, and in behalf of, the four counties of Alameda:, Contra' Ccsta,, � Franeiseo and Saga► teo, and WHHRS a, Special Community' Shelter Plan Task Farce has concluded that a potentially effective 01emsnt to this total Public Information Program is incorporation' of pertinent disaster infor- mation in local Telephone Dirsotories for the purpose or alerting and introducingthere public to; Commity Shelter' Plan and "Wr9snoy p rams; nuclear emergency characteristicsand selected specific individual lifesaving actions in time of peacetime emergency; and WHWEAS such a proposal has: been incorporated in the CSP Public Information Program Report which has been formally accepted by the CSP Steering Committee and the ABAG Szoeu.tive Committee an a basis to negotiate a federally supported contract to implement the Public Information Program; and WMWEAS the Telephone Directory is so well accepted that the residual effect of incorporating lifesaving Information is considered to be the most impressive in providing the desired result of public awarenoss; and SEAS the 'Telephone Directory is neo widely distributed and readily available that as a place to 'refer people for immediate lifesaving information in tine of imminent or actual emergency,, it is potentially one of the most effective, expedient communication devices at our <disposal; RESOLUTION NUMBER 71./5'6 NOW$ TMAFORB, BE IT RESOWND that the BOARD OF SUPERVISORS of the City of Centra Costas State of California, herewith supports the, above proposal and a joint Association of Bag .Area Governments-Counter effort to no-gotiato an agreement with the Federal Governmont and the American Telephone` and Telegraph Compan to utilize for disaster informations four pages (two sheetsT in their Directories covering this County; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by this Board that a negotiated agreement as to content `and, ' format shall be based; upon mutual, satisfaotion to the County,; Association of Bait Area C verm- wnta, California 'Office of Emergeney Services, Federal 'Governments and American Telephone and 'Telegraph`> Company.
