Coffey } RESOLUTION NUMBER 71/ 4.9 } WHEREAS this Board has been apprised of the passing of Mr. I. J . Coffey, longtime -resident of the City of Richmond, California; and WHEREAS Mr. Coffey, after harrowing experiences in Europe, emigrated to the United States, established successful businesses in New York City, and then moved west to California; and WHEREAS Mr. Coffey, during his quarter of a century of residence in Richmond, was a well known figure in civic affairs and political campaigns; and WHEREAS Mr. Coffey served as a deputy registrar to qualify citizens to vote and in one year registered more than 1,000 voters, an achievement which drew the attention and commendation of the Governor of the Stave of California; and WHEREAS lir. Caffey worked tirelessly in behalf of elderly persons, serving on the Governors Commission on Aging and with the Richmond, El Cerrito and San Pablo senior citizen organizations; and WHEREAS his energy and efforts and achievements will be, sorely missed in the community life of the City of Richmond and the County of Contra Costa.; NOW, T'HEREF'ORE, BE IT BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA. RESOLVED, that it expresses deep regret on the passing of Mr . I . J . Coffey, extends to his family its sincere sympathy, and adjourns this official meeting in his memory. PASSED and; ADOPTED this 12th day of January, 1971 by the following vote of the Board AYES: Supervisors A. M. 'Dias, J . E. Moriarty, W. N. Boggess, E. A. Linscheid, J . P. Kenny . NOES: None .
