In the Matter of Declaring )
September 2003 National Alcohol )
and DrugAddiction Recovery Month ) RESOLUTION NO. 2-0031522
WHEREAS every day in Contra Costa County and throughout the world, men, women and young people enter
treatment for alcohol and other substance abuse problems and begin the road to recovery, while their families seek
hope in support groups and special counseling programs; and
WHEREAS alcoholism and drug addiction continue to affect all our lives. The cost of addiction in the world's
workplaces in lost productivity, absenteeism and accidents continues to spiral to billions of dollars each year; and
WHEREAS alcoholism and drug addiction are at the root cause of many serious traffic accidents, unsafe and
potentially life threatening sexual practices, suicides,juvenile delinquency, dysfunctional family behavior,joblessness,
homelessness, as well as exposure to Hepatitis and HIV infections; and
97MRF9,S thousands of health care providers have dedicated their lives to the recovery process and to the education of
the public regarding substance abuse, its related problems and recovery;and
WHEREAS in the past 20 years, medical science has made great strides in its knowledge of the nature of
addiction, related chronic medical conditions and successful treatment.
A70W77WR.EFOREBEITRESOLVED, that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors hereby
proclaims September 2003 National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month in our County. We celebrate the
tremendous strides made by those who have undergone successful treatment and recognize those in the treatment field
who have dedicated their lives to helping facilitate recovery from.addiction. We urge everyone to embrace this year's
theme "Join the Voices for Recovery: Celebrating Health"and to participate in this month's activities.
