CONTRA COSTA COUNTY STUDENTS >
AS CALIFORNIA ARTS'SCHOLAR.S
WHEREAS,Contra Costa County recognizes the contributions of The Arts and Culture Commission in
advancing the arts in ways that promote communication,education,appreciation and collaboration throughout Contra
Costa County, including the honoring of students of exemplary artistic achievement;and
WHEREAS,the California State Summer School for the Arts (CSSSA)was established to help prepare
talented high school students for careers in the arts and entertainment industries; and
Vv'11 iREAS, more than 7,300 young California artists,who represent the diversity of California, have
benefited from the unique experience of participating in this intensive arts training program;and
W 1EREAS,Union Bank of California, Including the local branch in Martinez, have supported efforts to
make this year's program a success and accessible to all talented and deserving students;and
WEI.EREAS,the 17th CSSSA program is providing valuable opportunities for students to interact with
distinguished facultymembers in a month-long residential program hosted at the California Institute for the Arts;and
WHEREAS,California Arts Scholar Day honors the distinguished high school students who have been
awarded the California Arts Scholars Medallion and selected to participate in the 2003 California State Summer School
for the Arts program; and
WTIEREA.S,the California Arts Scholars from Contra Costa County, listed by name, city, high school and
artistic discipline, include, Natasha Arora,Walnut Creek, Northgate High School, Creative Writing Kirby Barajas, El
Cerrito,Berkeley High School, Visual Arts; Amanda Berkson-Brand,Walnut Creek Northgate High School, Creative
Writing; Enzo Ceilucci,Alamo, Monte Vista High School,Theatre; Christopher Fortin, El Cerrito,EI Cerrito High
School,Animation; Leslie Fraser, Pinole, St Mary's College High School, Dance;Kimberly Hidalgo,Walnut Creek,
Northgate High School, Music Vocal; Stephanie Jamieson, Concord, Northgate High School, Dance; Ethan Kirschbaum,
Orinda, Miramonte High School, Dance; Clarence Lewis IV,Antioch, San Francisco School of the Arts,Theatre;
Christopher Liem, Lafayette, De La Salle High School,Visual Arts; Grace Menary-Winefield, Orinda, Miramonte High
School,Theatre;Jasmine Hart Poindexter, El Sobrante, De Anza High School,Visual Arts; Meredith Spencer, Concord,
College Park High School, Creative Writing;Jenefer Taylor, Orinda, Bentley High School, Theatre.
NOW, TFIEREF''ORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa
County does hereby declare that the above fifteen students are California Arts Scholars, and urges residents to continue
to support the artistic endeavors and careers of these students.
Passed by a unanimous vote of the Board members present this 12th day of August 2003.
