RESOLUTION NO. 20031274
9WEREAS, it is increasingly important to emphasize that mental health is critical for the well
being and vitality of our families, businesses and communities; and
WHE S, there is a need to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining mental
health, and to learn more about the impact of mental disabilities on one's mental health; and
4'Ii.E'MS, learning more about mental health is important in educating the public about mental
disabilities and it is vital to dispel associated negative preconceptions about persons with mental
disabilities; and
WHEMS, the National Mental Health Association, the National Council for Community
Behavioral Healthcare, and their partners celebrate Mental Health Month each year in May to
raise awareness about mental health, mental health disabilities, and insurance discrimination
against people with mental disabilities;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOL VVED T114 T THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
OF CON77?A COSTA COUNTY proclaims the month of May 2043 as "Mental Health
Awareness Month", and requests the support of Contra Costa County residents and organizations
in this effort to increase awareness about the importance of mental health and to promote the
understanding that, through proper treatment and rehabilitation, individuals are able to resume
productive satisfying lives and, through education about mental health, negative preconceptions
about persons with mental disabilities can be dispelled.
