retirement from Contra Costa County ) RESOLUTION 2003/200
WHEREAS John Ritola began his County career in November, 1977 as an Electrician in the
Building Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department; and
WHEREAS the General Services Department was created in October, 1985 and John Ritola
transferred to the new department and subsequently was promoted to bead Electrician in July,
1987; was promoted to Facilities Trades Supervisor in September, 1990; and was promoted to
Building Maintenance Manager in March, 1993;and
WHEREAS John Ritola has represented Contra Costa County as a member of the California
Counties Facilities Services Association(CCFSA); and
WHEREAS under John Ritola's leadership, the Building Maintenance Division has grown from
a staff of 45 in 1993 to a staff of 99 positions and is the largest division of the department; and
WHEREAS John Ritola has demonstrated strong leadership and positive role modeling to his
employees, promoting good morale by having quarterly breakfasts and an annual fishing trip; and
to demonstrate his leadership skills caught both the biggest trout and the biggest bass on the
annual trip in 20)1; and
WHEREAS John Ritola has exemplified hard work and loyalty throughout his career, taking on
additional responsibilities willingly and enthusiastically; and
WHEREAS John Ritola has demonstrated a personal commitment to quality work and has
strongly promoted that to his staff;and
WHEREAS John Ritola has consistently demonstrated creativity and commitment to his staff,
most recently reaching out to take on additional work in the area of small construction projects to
mitigate the negative impact of this current budget crisis;and
WHEREAS Jahn Ritola has earned the right to fish, golf and enjoy traveling with his wife,
Maureen, in his new 5th-wheel trailer;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors recognizes John
Ritola upon his retirement after over 25 years of dedicated service to Contra Costa County.
