HONORING RICHMOND POLICE OFFICER.JOHN E. BRUCE FOR HIS DEDICATION AND
COMMITMENT TO PROTECTING THE RESIDENTS OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND
Whereas, Officer John E. Bruce has faithfully served with the Richmond Police Department and
protected its residents for nearly nine years; and
Whereas, Officer Bruce worked more than two years in patrol before becoming a detective in the
Robbery and Assault Investigations Unit; and
Whereas,during his four years in the Robbery and Assault Investigations Unit,Officer Bruce received
nine summary commendations,one Captain's Commendation and a commendation from the Centra
Costa County District Attorney's Office; and
Whereas, during Officer Bruce's assignment as a Robbery and Assault Detective, he authored 24
search warrants and solved more than 90%of his cases,participated in more than 320 High-Risk Entry
Team Operations, and became an advocate for many of his victims and participated in numerous
multi-jurisdictional committees to develop support services for victims of assault and spousal abuse;
and
Whereas, Officer Bruce has proven to be a champion of victim's rights whose high work ethics are
mirrored by other Sergeants, Detectives, and Patrol Officers; and
Whereas,Officer Bruce is being honored as the 2002 Police Officer of the Year by the Richmond-San
Pablo Exchange Club.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County
honors and commends Richmond Police Officer John E. Bruce for his strong commitment to serving
and protecting the residents and communities in the City of Richmond.
PASSED by unanimous vote of the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors on this
18th day of March, 2003
