HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01012003 - 2003-136 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA Adopted this Resolution on February 25, 2003, by the following vote: AYES: SUPERVISOR GIOIA, UILKEMA, GERBER, GLOVER & DeSAULNIER NOES: NONE ABSENT: NONE ABSTAIN: NONE Resolution No,W03J 136 Subject: Modification of certain } benefits originally provided } under Resolution 2001/503 } WHEREAS, currently, In accordance with the California Military and Veterans Code,the County provides eligible employees with their full salary for the first thirty(30)days while on military leave of absence in any fiscal year for purposes of ordered, active duty.And, WHEREAS, Resolution 20011503,adopted on October 18,2001,augmented the aforementioned benefits specifically for those employees ordered to active duty due to Operation Enduring Freedom. And, WHEREAS, California Government Code Section 19775.17 provides benefits similar to those outlined In Resolution 20011503 to"a state employee who, as a member of the California National Guard or a United States military reserve organization, is ordered to active duty by Presidential determination that It is necessary to augment the active forces for any operational mission, or when In time of national emergency declared by the President or otherwise authorized by law". NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the benefits outlined In Resolution 20011503 are extended to County employees who, as a member of the California National Guard or a United States military reserve organization, are ordered to active duty by Presidential determination that It is necessary to augment the active forces for any operational mission, or when In time of national emergency declared by the President or otherwise authorized by law. County employees who have been called to active military duty, as defined In paragraph four above, after exhausting salary or compensation to which they are entitled, pursuant to the California Military and Veterans Code, shall be entitled to salary augmentation not to exceed one hundred percent(100%)of their full County salary In combination with their military pay,for a period not to exceed 180 calendar days while engaged in the performance of ordered active military duty. The County Administrator may, at his/her discretion and on an Individual review and determination basis, extend this benefit for an additional period, not to exceed 180 calendar days. County salary augmentation is subject to mandatory deductions; voluntary deductions are optional. County employees who currently maintain life Insurance, medical and/or dental benefits shall be entitled to continue said benefits, at their option and subject to contractual limitations, when they are called to active military duty. If employees called to active military duty choose to continue any or all of these benefits,the County will contribute at the customary rate and the employee will continue to be responsible for their share of the premiums, in accordance with County requirements, All County costs associated with this resolution will be charged to the employee's department.
