HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01012003 - 2003-059 In the Matter of Proclaiming February 2003 As"Children's Dental Health Month" RESOLUTION NO.2003159 WHEREAS, dental disease is the most prevalent and untreated childhood disease in the nation;and WHEREAS, most dental disease is preventable, and routine care can detect and correct problems before they become serious,and WHEREAS, children in California have twice as much untreated dental decay as their national counterparts,and WHEREAS, of the 14,587 children screened in 2001-2002 by the Contra Costa Children's Oral Health Program,68%were referred for follow-up with a dentist,and almost one-quarter of those referred had urgent or emergency dental needs,and WHEREAS, more than 25% of preschool and elementary school children in California and 40% of high school children in California have no dental insurance,and WHEREAS, attitudes and habits established at an early age are critical in maintaining good oral health throughout life;and WHEREAS, by participating in the annual celebration of National Children's Dental Health Month,dental health providers,parents,and teachers throughout Contra Costa County can help keep children's smiles beautiful now and for years to come.
