HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01012003 - 2003-012 6177 In the Matter of Declaring February 2003 ) as Black History Month in Contra Costa County ) r and February 16, 2003 ) Black Families Association of Contra Costa County Day) RESOLUTION NO. 2003112 W1bVZEA$ the Blade Families Association of Contra Costa County was founded in September 1973 to provide an avenue for African American people in Contra Costa County to come together;and WIMP the Black Families Association of Contra Costa County fosters an appreciation of African American cultural heritage, pride and dignity as well as provides a forum for social interaction among African American residents of the County;and UlUE E S, the Black Families Association of Contra Costa County provides a positive African American experience for youth by enhancing their knowledge and understanding of how historical and current events influence their lives,and WI.rIP.RE"A$ the Blade Fanz es Associadon of Contra Costa County formed a youth group to serve as a source of support and social interaction;and, Wl RW the Black Families Associadon of Contra eta County serves as a clearinghouse for general information and provides community orientation for African American residents and assists with services of a charitable nature for the community at large;and 911LVEAS, the Black Families Association of Contra Costa County has maintained an annual calendar to include the Black History Month Celebration Program, the Famous African American Essay/Poster Contest, Black History Month Dinner Dance Scholarship Fundraiser, Youth Programs, Cultural Awareness Programs, participation in city/county Planning and Human Relations Commissions, Personnel Community Development and Merit Boards; NOW, TH'MEFOR.F BE IT I'tIWOLVED that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors declares February 2003 as `Black History Month in Contra Costa County" and February 1$, 2003 as "Black Families Association of Contra Costa County Day"'in honor of the organization's 1.5'annual scholarship fundraiser.
