In the Matter of Strengthening Support )
for the County's Clean Fuel Vehicle Ordinance )
to assure California-s Air is Pollution Free )
RESOLUTION NO. 20021686
WHEREAS, the majority of California's air pollution comes from mobile sources, such as cars,
trucks, and buses; and
WHEREAS, a wide variety of low emission vehicles in many applications are now available from
many manufacturers in ultra-low emission (ULEV), super-ultra4ow-emission (SULEt9, and zero.
emission (ZEA configurations; and
WHEREAS, the County can and should play a significant role in reducing air pollution since it is
a significant user of vehicles and equipment, and regularly purchases such; and
WHEREAS, the County is uniquely positioned to utilize clean fuel vehicles because of access to
central refueling station; and
WHERFAS, the County has shown special leadership and has adopted procurement policies that
give preference to the cleanest available vehicles suitable for each application;
NOW, YHEREFORE, BE IT KIVOWN that the Board of Supervisors does hereby
RESOLVE to amplify its part in reducing the air pollution in the Bay Area by assuring that
purchase preferences are given to the lowest emission vehicles available that are practical, and
reasonably cost competitive.
PASSED AND ADOPTED on December 17, 2002 by a unanimous vote of the Board members
present.
