RONORING SHARON 1 BROWN FOR ITER CO.M MffNT TO NEER COMMUNTI
W UREAS,Ms.Brown,originally from Clovis,New Mexico,has been raised.and educated in the Bay Area,and has
prr>ven herself to be extremely dedicated in her careeirs,community,and family,and
W1BREAS,Ms.Brown began her career in the transportation field,with a degree in Transportation Economics from the
Golden Gate University,initially working for the Department of the Navy and there working for Matson Navigation,Seatrairt
Laces,Yandell Truckaway,and GSL Shipping;and
W1I1EREAS, Ms.Brown started a neve career by going into real estate,after obtaining her real estate brokers license in
194.That same year,she began her career in public service by being elected to the San Pablo City Council,where she
coritinues to serve the residents of the city as a councilperson and as three time Mayor;and
W11 EREAS,Ms Brown has served as president and chairperson of numerous organizations,including,The Women's Traffic
ClVb of San Francisco,the Business and Professional Women of San Pablo,and The Association of Metropolitan Planning
Organization;and
WHEREAS,Ms.Brown has also been actively involved in several associations,such as the Governing Board of
Brookside Hospital,National Association of Realtors,California Association of Realtors,the West County Business and
Professional Association,the Board of Directors for the Centra Costa College Foundation,and the San Pablo Chamber of
Cm,nmerce;and
WftER.BAS,Ms.Brown was honored as the Woman of the Year by the San Pablo Exchange Club,and has received other
horrors and awards in her years in public office and service,and
WEIIEREAS,Ms.Brown has been instrumental in obtaining generous amounts of donations and grants to help fund
nurlerous programs and organizations that include the Police In Schools To Offer Life(PISTOL),new playground
equipment at Davis Park,the San Pablo Adopt-A-Family,and children in general;and
WHEREAS,Ms.Brown is a raspecW transportation leader in the Bay Area,serving as Chair of the Metropolitan
Transportation Commission and helping lead the effort to pass Contra Costa County's Measure C.
NOW,BE IT FURTDiER RESOLVED that the County of Contra Costa does hereby recognize the important contributions,
dedication, and example that Sharon J. Brown has provided to Contra Costa County and the San Francisco Bay Area
community.
PASSED by unanimous vote of the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors on this
8th of October,2002
