HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01012002 - 2002-618 F44T It-7/ In the Matter of Declaring October 2002 ` s As National Head Start Awareness Month RESOLIMON NO.2tl02/6â–º18 WHEREAS,Head Start was created by the Office of Economic Opportunity in 1965;and WHEREAS,Head Start was designed to help bier the cycle of poverty by providing preschool children of low- income families with a comprehensive program to meet their emotional,social,health,nutritional,and psychological needs;and WHEREAS,Head Start has enrolled over 20 million children nationwide since it Began in 1965;and WHEREAS,Contra Costa County Department's Head Start program has grown from a few children in we building in , two thousand Head start c today ; WHEREAS,Contra Costa County Community Services Department's Head Start program has received recognition by the California-Child Development Administrators Association in March 2002 for successfully expanding.the standardpart-day;part-year Head Start program to a full-day,full-year program,by collabo� rating'with the State of California Departmeint of Education;and WHEREAS,Contra Costa County Community Services Department's Head Start program has initiated building a new,state-of--the-art facility in Richmond in collaboration with the Rosie the Riveter historic landmark renovation; and WHEREAS,Contra Costa,C906ty Cttmunnriity Services Department's Head Start program is the first in California and only the second in the region to receive the"{duality Program of Achievement!°in.April 2002,from the National Head Start sociarion;sad, WHEREAS,Contra Costa County Community Services Department has received the"Excellence in Community Action!'award for the Western.Region,from the CaliformalNevada Comraitnity Action Association(Cal-Deva,)in April 2002;' V®W,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED,that the Board of Supervisors does hereby declare October 2002 as NATIONAL MEAD START AWARENESS MONTH in Contra Costs County. PASSED AND ADOPTED ON October 8,2002 by a unanimous vote ofthe Board members present.
