HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 01012002 - 2002-512 la the Matter of RESOLUTION NO.2002/512 zEMEMBERING THE ONE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE TRAGIC TERRORIST ATTACKS ON EI'TEMBER 11,2001 AND HONORING THOSE WHO COURAGEOUSLY SERVED AND GAVE THEIR IVES SAVING OTHERS DURING THIS HORRIFIC EVENT. Whereas,on September 11,2001,a terrorist attack was committed on the United States of America at the Norld Trade Center in New York City,the Pentagon Building in Washington,D.C.,and in rural Pennsylvania;and INhereas,hundreds of public safety officers,including fire fighters,police officers,and paramedics,as well as «irdinary citizens lost their lives trying to save others;and Whereas,the attack on September 11,2001,was historically the worst act of terrorism committed on U.S. soil; .nd VVhereas,the lives lost affected citizens throughout the nation including Contra Costa County;and Whereas,Contra Costa County continues to appeal to its county staff and citizens to help in relief efforts by donating privately through the County Charity Campaign;and Whereas,the effects of the terrorist attacks will be felt for many years;and Whereas,Contra Costa County supports President Bush's proclamation marking the one-year anniversary of x'..11. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County proclaims eptember 11,2002 as"Patriot Day in Contra Costa County"in honor and remember the countless individuals who served and sacrificed their lives saving others,and directs that all County flags be flown at half-mast on eptember 11,2002;and VE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the citizens of Contra Costa County are requested to observe a moment of 61enee on Patriot Day in remembrance of those who lost their lives as a result of the terrorist attacks against the united States that occurred on 9-11.
